Bat Makumba #7 with Golden Teacher (Optimo)
Having flexed our groove muscles at other people's dos at Tramlines, we've been left itching with excitement to get our next party together. Call on one of Glasgow's finest bands - Golden Teacher - to really shake things up and see us for the first time putting on a 'band' at BM.
But ne'er fear - this is no guitar and drums duo, thrashing out blues rock; Golden Teacher are an amalgamation of noise punk trio Ultimate Thrush and all analogue House duo Silk Cut. The result is a feral joy to behold - they describe themselves as hypno-psych voodoo groove - and their immediate assimilation onto Optimo Music's imprint left everyone's mind in no doubt about their dance kudos.
Their latest EP Do Not Go Gently into that Good Night is released on Optimo this week (27/07) so they'll be bounding down from Scotland itching to unleash their sonic tornado on Yorkshire for the first time. As their label warns - If you're looking for slick, smooth, generic computer made music, this release probably isn't for you, Sugar.
Our residents will be in full swing, opening up the night with whatever they please, then employing records that will figuratively re-assemble your mind-boggled brains following the wonderful mania that our Scottish guests will bring; carrying everybody on - as they may say - into the wee hours. (Sorry)
