Anyone else not really understand why bands do encores? Just seems a bit pointless and hugely contrived.

It's not like I loudly proclaim my observations when Radiohead leave the stage for the 3rd time, but you have to roll your eyes a bit when a band try to huddle out of sight behind the PA before walking back out 10 seconds later
