do you think if the music industry hadn't collapsed in on itself...
mainstream music would be in a better way?
I was thinking about the idea of a strong music industry being more willing to take risks, and the way people so blatantly play to trends now, taking zero risks...there are pretty few instances of bravery, weirdness, game-changing, or whatever.
it's not just maverick stuff I miss, but 'big tunes' that aren't necessarily groundbreaking, but are ace anyway. it's almost all box-ticking and irritating. and I'm pretty sure most production is geared towards shitty phone speakers.
like, you used to be able to watch MTV Base or whatever, and there was loads of good stuff. and you'd hear lots of tunes amongst the rubbish on daytime Radio 1. US r&b/hip-hop, crossovers from house/techno, garage/d&b/grime....
but would it? idk, maybe t'internet would have ruined things either way.
