Small guitar question that probably doesn't warrant thread creation

I got a Boss DS-1 pedal off my friend but it doesn't have a power cable. It says on the box USE BOSS PSA ADAPTOR ONLY but that's bullshit right? Can I not just use any 9v DC power thing?
