I've often thought about how my favourite album by a given band is, in the vast majority of cases, the first of their albums that I heard

...which has me wondering whether that first heard album ends up defining the band for me, such that every other album by them (whether older or more recent) fails to recapture what I love about the band, or whether I just happen to always attach a special significance to that first heard album, because it's the album that introduced me to a band I've gone on to love.

I guess I'm thinking more of bands where you like the bulk of their output, but maybe it's more general than that.

At any rate, talk about bands where you heard an album by them that you liked, but then heard another album by them that you rate even more highly. Or just talk about the phenomenon of liking the first heard album more.
