Stag & Dagger, Glasgow, 2012
A brief review.
Was watching Blackpool West Ham and the Scottish Cup Final so the first band I saw was A Plastic Rose. Initially they seemed kind of promising but the banter from one of their number was fucking wank and he kept trying to get people to clap along - note to bands visiting Glasgow; we are holding pint(s) and also can't be arsed, trying and failing to get us to clap is a pathetic. Their last two songs were fucking rubbish but I have the suspicion that they view them as their 'hits'. Sorry lads but no.
Then I took a wee jaunt upstairs for White Denim, The Phantom Band and Django Django.
White Denim were excellent. Songs drifting into other songs and extended guitar freakouts. One guitarist though was a distracting douche with his head bobbing and general buffonery - someone needs to tell him that he's not in the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and he should stand there like a normal fucking person. See countless other bands for the correct onstage behaviour.
The place seemed to empty a wee bit for The Phantom Band. Some good stuff especially Folk Song Oblivion but they need to work on making other songs a bit more engaging for the audience who're not familiar with their stuff in my humble opinion.
The place busied up for Django Django - who knew they were so popular with the young 'uns. A top, top performance.
I then tried to go to see Willy Mason at CC5 but the venue part of the place didn't have a bar and it was rammed so if you left the venue bit for a pint then there was no guarantee that you would get back in. The manager/bouncers did not take kindly to my drunken rantings that this was bloody mental and surely they could have handstamped people or something. We left without hearing any Willy Mason.
We hoofed it down to Stereo to catch a wee bit of EMA. I was pretty wankered by this point and was stood at the bar with the chatty loud bastards; I was probably being one by this point. EMA looked nice but nothin about her music really grabbed my attention. So we went home.
Great day oot. Anyone else out there that can fill in what the other bands were like?
