Does radio in the UK need a minimum quota for domestic artists?
Something I've been mulling for a while and sparked some debate on Twitter this morning. Very partially inspired by the BBC Sound of 2012 poll only featuring one domestic act.
I wondered what people thought about this? In France, for instance, there is a 40% minimum quotient for French-language music to be played and Australia (home of arguably the best state-run alternative music station on the planet in Triple J) self-regulates at 20% of output to be domestic.
I think there's an argument that, in particular state run stations in the UK have a minimum quota of British music as part of their output.
Just wondered what thoughts were on this?
