As in... a band you like says 'we've written our new record, but we haven't recorded it yet - we need your money to help us do it', or even 'we haven't written our record yet...'.

So they offer a deal where you pay your £10 or whatever and some months later you get a special CD with your own little credit or loads of bonus goodies or some such thing. Basically like these kickstarter thingies that they do now...
