new discoveries (that aren't new)
great records you've stumbled across of late, from any given time but the present.
The Skygreen Leopards - One Thousand Bird Ceremony
I guess these were minor players in the whole freak folk movement, at least relative to your Banharts, Chasnys and Newsoms. one of those bands I was always curious about, but not curious enough to go ahead and listen. worth it, though. best thing I've heard in ages.
disarmingly lovely, bittersweet and dreamy...gently psychedelic bedroom pop in the lineage of Syd Barrett, littered with folksy, countryish signifiers. overcast day in either autumn or spring, light headed somnolent woodland & meadow music.
beautiful, breezy, open sounding record, like it just drifted through an open window.
go listen to 'Let Me Grow In Your Meadow' and 'Where Do Songs Come From?', then the rest when said tunes inevitably tug at your heartstrings like a little kid tugging at your sleeve.
http://bit.ly/t4ObC4 (the latter of the two songs I recommended...this album isn't on Spotify, but there are four others that are. no idea if they're any good)
