Is it conceivable in a number of years the alt/indie world will gladly adopt nu-metal revivalism?
This isn't bitching or anything, but in the last year or two there's been a large rise in alternative artists embracing genres that were (I think) only very recently looked down upon or mocked slightly. Bon Iver, Destroyer, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, John Maus and quite a few others have given us an update of that slick, kinda cheesy, 70s/80s soft AOR sound. From what I can tell, it's far more prevalent now than it has been in ages, and it does work well imo, but would people have called it five years ago?
Reviving uncool genres has always been around, but could it be that in a handful of years nu-metal and grungey aftermath acts -I'm talking about the really lame turn-of-the-00s stuff like Creed - could become the 'in thing' amongst alt acts? Or is that going to be a step too far?
