Your idea of... POP Pefection
Whilst digesting the Guardian's history of pop, and listening to their playlist, I decided to make a totally subjective and by no means definitive pop playlist, to try to get my head around what pop is for me.
Try as I might, I can't quite put into words what pop is and isn't - in much the same why I can't explain why I love some ambient music and find a lot of it really boring. Pop's contrary heart doesn't need to be explained and whatever it is that beats at the epicentre of universal songs, just, like, is. Yet, attempting to explain why some melodies haunt me more than others or grasping a greater understanding of why music does 'this' to me, is the quest which fed my appetite and led me to where I find myself today, sitting at a computer, 'working' for a music website I sort of started (it really wasn't hard to convince people to get involved).
Anyway, here's a playlist I made myself (and if anyone else likes it, it's a bonus) and was wondering what would feature on your perfect pop playlist? Maybe we should try to see if there's enough agreement to do some sort of 'definitive' DiS pop playlist...
