I said last week that people put too much emphasis on Zombi's relation to Goblin. Well Umberto is the most shameless Argento homage merchant in the world. The crackly synth sound he gets is pretty fantastic, tbf. The new Zombi album, on the other hand, is still leaving me a bit cold, especially the first couple of tracks. This may well be my song of the year though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH4eVI7OmK4 Moroder, Tangerine Dream and early Aphex all chucked together. It's actually a really simple circular song, starting with a repetitive synth loop, then beat, then rising in drama with some darkly melodious keys, then slipping away to that same loop. I love it.
Ariel Pink's album from last year has some tunes on it. The production is a bit rubbish, and some of the songs are a bit lacking, but this is one of my favourite indie albums of recent times. Magic Lantern are great for walking around in a stupor. New Junior Boys has some decent songs but i like it less every time i listen.
also, been listening to the Italians Do It Better comp a lot this week. This in particular is a glittery, camp classic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAipx0kXi8E and the bassline in this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwxEFYuvwLE
one more thing.. this may well be my last last.fm for a while. My new phone isn't compatible, and to be honest i'm not going to carry around an iPod as well just to scrobble. I mean, i'm not guntrip. Seeya..
