We often get threads or posts with people lamenting the poor production on some track or album but most are often calling for production to be stepped up - but can anyone think of an album that needs the exact opposite - less production? There's probably quite a lot.

Can you think of some albums which have been tragically mishandled due to over enthusiasm in the studio in one way or another. For example, either they're too oppressively and assaulting loud (my only gripe with the recent Cold Cave album for example)or they're 'too clean' ('Disintegration' re-release perhaps?) and could do with sound being toned down and textured.

Why don't we have re-releases which attempt to put this type of thing right alongside all the cleaned up 're-mastered' re-releases?
