DAMO SUZUKI’S NETWORK + PIFCO and HIRED MUSCLE
THE BUSZY – 30/04/11
Damo Suzuki is perhaps most known for his work with legendary krautrockers and pioneers of just about every sub-genre of rock music since the 60’s - ‘CAN’. Damo was a travelling teen busking in the streets of Munich, Germany when the members of CAN heard him singing outside a cafe. In the spirit of spontaneity and circumstance playing a major role in musical compo...sition, Damo was asked to join the band that night, which he did. He later went on to record 4 groundbreaking and critically acclaimed albums with the band, even experiencing a commercial hit or 2 along the way with “Spoon” and “I want more”. Damo left CAN in ’73 and they continued to crush boundaries with their musical explorations for decades.
Since his days in CAN, while Damo has released various records of his own, collaborating with artists such as Broken Social Scene, the Omar-Rodriguez-Lopez Quintet and the Bees, his main musical output since 1983 has been touring the World with ‘Damo Suzuki’s Network’.
This involves collaborating with a selection of local musicians, or ‘sound-carriers’ on improvised lived shows, creating ‘Spontaneous compositions’ that are unique to that time, place and group of artists. The Network has included artists as acclaimed and varied as: Tortoise, the Mars Volta, Gang of four, AIDS Wolf, Do make say think, Faust, Acid Mothers Temple, Ruins, Guillemots, Spiritualized, the Verve, Bardo Pond, Gang Gang Dance and literally hundreds more.
For this particular show we are thrilled to bring Damo to ‘the Buszy’, where he will be performing with ‘Sound Carriers’ from the Bletchley musical community which includes members of ‘Action Beat’, ‘Hired Muscle’, ‘House of John Player’ and ‘Duke of Zuke’.
Damo Suzuki is a highly regarded and much loved member of Experimental / Alt-rock royalty whose influence on contemporary music is inescapable. For him to come and play in Milton Keynes, with some of our very own musicians is a seriously very special event, and should not be missed by anyone with an interest in avant-garde/alt/experimental music, or anyone else for that matter.
