I haven't heard many from friends, I usually hang around with people smart enough not to wear AC/DC, Clash or Iron Maiden T-shirts without owning the records or god forbid, not knowing who those bands were. But here's a golden quote on a "Make Doherty History" Facebook group a few years back:

"pete doherty is a legend, he invented indie!!"

Also met someone who thought Paul Weller "was Northern Soul" and Kate Bush sang Foundations, but they were probably just innocent drunken malapropisms.
