I've only heard much of what's gone on second-hand, but clearly Brighton Council should be taking a long, hard look in the mirror for the way they've handled this whole situation.

Personally, I've lived in Brighton for seven years and have been going to gigs for about twice as long as that, but I don't think I've seen as much good stuff at a single venue in such a short space of time as I have in the Freebutt over the past twelve months: Japandroids, BLK JKS, Quasi, Vivian Girls - all playing a few feet away and selling you their merch seconds after they've finished.

Sure, the place was a bizarre shape and the pillars infuriating, but it definitely had that least definable of qualities: character.
