Has anyone else noticed how so many of these lists from publications which would normally err on the side of musical caution are surprising us with some leftfield choices?

Is it down to the net melding all forms of music together? Is it down to there not being any clear 'trends' anymore?

Or is this always the case and I've just never noticed it before?
