Which work best for you in the short term (hearing something new you might like) and long term (finding something that changes your mood/taste/life)

Or, as I suspect, have you found a way to balance using both? It looks like I'm doing a panel at SXSW discussing this topic with some folks from Last.fm, so would be really curious to hear your thoughts.
