Ok, so, I know defining music by gender is soo 2007 (or whenever it was that everyone decided that Lily Allen and Bat for Lashes were basically both the same as Kate Bush), but I've been listening to the Dessa album for a while now and really liking it, so I thought I'd do a kind of female MC thread. Y'know, for people to post a load of links to great stuff I've not heard before and that. I think, given the male dominance of the genre, not to mention the obvious vocal differences in a primarily vocal-dominated genre, there definitely IS a valid reason for lumping these all together. Maybe? I seem to find there's a much higher good:bad ratio among the ladies as well - I dunno if this is just cos they have to be of a certain standard to get any recognition at all?
