When it comes to celebrating the life and work of James “J-Dilla” Yancey in London none do it harder or better than The Doctor’s Orders. Tonight they mark the release of the incredible “Suite For Ma Dukes” with performance from three Dilla associates who will be performing not only work they made with him but also other bangers from their catalogues.
Elzhi is probably the most gifted to MC’s to have come out of Detroit and considering the wealth of talent from the city that is saying something. Having made a name for himself on he city’s battle scene he began work with local legends such as DJ Houseshoes & Waajeed as well as becoming part of several local groups; The Breakfast Club alongside Dwele & Big Tone and later 925 Colony with Nick Speed and Magestik Legend. Having met J-Dilla, then known as Jay Dee, through his collaborations with Waajeed he was invited to feature on the brilliant “Welcome To Detroit” and then later to become an official member of Slum Village while working alongside Baatin on “Fantastic Vol.2”. With an unparalleled versatility of delivery and intricate wordplay Elzhi has gained armies of fans all over the world the London battalion of which will be out in force tonight.
Phat Kat was the surprise package of The Doctor’s Orders 4th Birthday at Herbal where he blew the crowd apart with his phenomenal stage presence and no holds barred delivery. We have been looking forward to welcoming him back since and the time is nigh. He started his career as a member of 1st Down alongside Jay Dee whom he continued to collaborate with throughout his career. Set to perform the slamming “Cold Steel” as well as other brilliant tracks from “Carte Blanche” and beyond this man has to be seen & heard to be believed.
DJ Dez has been on The Doctor’s Orders wish list for a good while now. Both under his guise as Slum Village’s DJ Dez and as his producer alter ego Andres he is a phenomenal talent perfectly suited to the open minded, fun loving crowd that pack out The Doctor’s Order’s events every time.
DJ 279 has been rocking the airwaves since 1992 on London’s Choice FM. With MOBO nominations coming thick and fast `alongside other awards throughout the year and gigs around the world it is fair to say that Numbers has the ear of the underground with every MC worth his weight in gold plaques coming though the show to shout out London. His sets at On The Real have become a highlight of the night and always leave the dance-floors sweating and smiling.
Spin Doctor is the driving force behind the phenomenal success of The Doctor's Orders and while not planning domination of the UK's party scene is most at ease behind a set of decks. The early influence of his 5 older brothers and sisters record collections developed into an obsession with soul tinged music of all styles which he uses to this day when treating dance-floors to his fearless sets of party platters.
