Tips for mixing / DJing with a laptop?
The past few weeks I've been trying to remember how to "DJ" and kind of realised that I never really learnt how to do much more than pick songs and bash play. Whenever I've played music at gigs over the past few years, it's usually just background stuff that's easy to cross fade into each other. Or I've just lazily made an on-the-go playlist on my iPod and that was it (to be fair, I usually do this when I'm not being paid to "dj").
I've watched a few people recently, including DiS' own Rory Gibb and them chaps from worriedaboutsatan at rollerpolooza, and rekindled my bug from blasting out music I love.
Also, I've made this little mixcloud thing ( http://www.mixcloud.com/seaninsound/blackberry-torch-dis-presents-dis-is-10-founders-forty-min-mix/ ) and was wondering if anyone has any good links to stuff that has helped them or general advice, specifically on a more technical level. The bit in that mix where I come out of Dan Deacon and into Jaydiohead is a bit messy, how could I have better done that? And I ended up playing the full version of All My Friends, how would you have mixed something into that?
Gotta make a few more mixes for this 6week mixtapes thingy, and hopefully I'll get a bit less shit as time goes by, so all advice greatly received.
Many thanks
Sean
