Hey Brighton bands, Venue crisis!
hello,
Is anyone else gigging in the Brighton area getting a bit fucking disturbed by the lack of decent venues now available in town? I recently moved back here after a couple of years abroad to find there now seems to be very few options for bands starting out and wanting a place to play. The Engine Rooms, The Barfly, The Ocean Rooms, The Pressure point, Hanbury, Greenhouse Effect, Hobgoblin have all either gone under or stopped putting on gigs as far as i can tell. The Providence is closing and becoming a tesco express, I've heard rumours that Hectors House is gonna stop putting on gigs and the recent noise meter fiasco that the Freebutt is facing surely puts their future in jeopardy.
Sorry to ramble on but it would be cool to here from people that have any ideas of how to combat this. New venue locations? Guerilla gigs? Or maybe there is someplace new I haven't heard of you could recommend cos as far as i can tell there are only really two places left in Brighton that a local band can have a chance of playing: The Albert and The Hope.
Cheers!
