A Sunny Day in Glasgow at the Luminaire
anybody else go to this tonight?
I thought it was excellent. They sounded less ethereal/shoegazey, and more like an 80's pop band. The two female singers: YEAH. Definitely recommend seeing them at Primavera, which I'll be doing.
...The Modern Painters- not that interesting for me. They do the 90's shoegaze thing fine enough, but there's not much going on that that. The best new shoegaze bands around seem to be the ones which play around a bit with their sound- these guys seemed a bit too routine.
Finally, I really enjoyed Dorias Baracca, the first band. I haven't bought music at a show since Grouper about 3 or 4 years ago, but I bought their ep tonight. Manage to distill all these great 90's bands into one great mix-Swirlies, Yo La Tengo, etc. One of the best support acts I've seen recently.
