Back in the day when money was tight I would 'live' in a recording for weeks on end, playing it constantly, learning it's brilliance and flaws. Nowadays, unless it's mindblowing on first listen, a new record enters a rotation of 5 or 6 records on my stereo that gets played once and then again a few days later and a few days after that and I think I've diluted their impact / my enjoyment.

Also, I usually play a new record once all the way through, like most people, but recently I've started playing each track twice on the first listen through and found this more rewarding.
