I liked Boxer quite a lot (love the drums) but at a certain point, I stopped listening to it. Due to their overexposure on this board (which I'm contributing to right now) all the time, and everywhere as of late starting to annoy me, I was all set up to despise High Violet. Turns out such a reaction probably isn't possible, mainly because the record is fantastic front to back (even if I have a few beefs w/r/t the mix [NOT ENOUGH FUCKING DRUMS]). Sure, their dour "this matters, bro" demeanor and does irk me, and still being a young punk kid from Detroit at heart, anything about miserable rich people (i.e. National lyrics) puts me on guard, but I have to admit that their music does, in fact, matter, and their lyrics are compelling. In their case, popularity is an indication of consistency, quality, and just being something anyone can rally behind. I'm sorry, Natty Nats. I'm sorry I ever doubted you.
