Daughters/Fang Island.
Two excellent self titled albums.
One guitarist.
Too bad dude wanting to do Fang Island basically killed Daughters, Fang Island is excellent but the new Daughters is easily their best. Apparently this Nick Sadler fellow was afraid of choosing the "dark side" by making scary noises and decided to play sweet harmonized guitar leads that will probably lead him to a wider audience (I can see Fang Island appealing to tweens [no shots! It's not necessarily a bad thing...], they've got an intergenerational sort of catchiness) and more $$$ which is fair enough. I guess this desire for a more accessible direction does show itself in the production of the Daughters record, and there are some catchy riffs, but they're always tempered by sections where the guitars seem to be malfunctioning in some horrific way and the drums are mounting an all out assault. And the vocals sound like David Yow, which turns out to be a good thing as opposed to a lame derivative move. Should Fang Island start contrasting catchy harmonized solos with horrifying noise? Should Daughters reform and tour with Fang Island? Should both bands become one?
