Bands/albums which capture that 'dull, grey, suburban rainy day' feeling
Can anyone suggest any? And I don't just mean traditional British suburban indie like Hefner and stuff- cause although I do sort of get that feeling from them, sometimes. But I've recently been 'feeling it' (ha) from the new Beach House album, also The XX and the latest Bill Callahan one- Belle & Sebastian are also good for this kind of thing (especially 'this is just a modern rock song' EP).
Lyrical content doesn't have to be relevant. Just stuff that makes you think of railings, suburban footpaths, flooded concrete car parks, kids climbing over the fence to the allotments, ugly 60's built libraries, community health centres, swimming pools, the sound of heavy rain when you're sheltering in an underpass etc.
Obviously I could be talking bollocks and maybe no-one else gets this kinda thing from music. But that sort of grey, wistful feeling which some bands manage to create is just amazing in my opinion. Suggestions welcome otherwise I'll just feel stupid.
