Realizing you're the only band of your sort in the area
A blessing and a curse? Right now I'm drumming / mallets and anything else we need for an indie folk band named A Fair Few. Being in sort of the middle of nowhere, a tiny "college town" named Annville, we are the only band of our sort around that we know of, and we've tried looking. On one hand this is good, because it means there aren't any other bands competing for "indie folk band" of the area, but on the other booking shows is proving to be a pain in the ass. We keep either getting booked with straight up indie rock bands, which while fun, totally lowers the mood slightly for us and them, or guys with acoustic guitars, which we've made a point of separating ourselves from. So, which is a better option, going even further distances to try to book shows with similar artists, or just dealing with it and getting odd and indifferent crowds?
