basically my band got a release deadline sprung upon us last week for a ltd edition CD we want to do soon.

normally for something like this we just record in my kitchen. The guy who's stuff we use has recently pretty much all broken and he said he can offer us an 8 track tape recorder.

i really like the idea of this as we've got quite a lo-fi sound anyway but i'm just about a few things.

for instance:

can we overdub things? like vocals and extra loops and stuff.

is it just going to sound like just unreally sh*t so much so that we'd be better off with one behringer mic into my laptop line in?

is it possible to get alright results without having tonnes of outboard gear?

also does anyone have any good examples of songs recorded by non-professionals with tape/ 8 tracks? i'd like to know what i can achieve/aspire to achieve.
