Youthmovies have passed on
No doubt it's already been mentioned but the search function is broken and I can't find any threads/articles on it on DiS.
"I guess the nut's been cracked... we were going to wait to announce our demise until we had our final shows in place - if nothing else to make us feel better about the end of what's been an awesome, turbulent, terrible and wonderful period in our lives; it's a sad time for us and we wanted to be measured about it; but as is the case nowadays - the internet had it's way.
There's a part of me that would love this to be an amputated, acerbic mess of a break-up, for the romance of it, but we're still friends, still love to play and there's no attitude about any of this; we're all at good points in our lives, just very different ones. Life has spread us out over the country now and it's become a logistical nightmare to get our shit together. I think there was a good chance that had we made the next record, our distance would have had a bad affect on the music. We've always been close and it's the only way we know how to work with one and other. So, not wanting to tar what we've done in the past, we're calling it a day and looking to the future..."

Firstly, I'm absolutely devestated as I only got to see them once live after I discovered Good Nature and they became one of my favourite new bands. They're such nice guys and the brand of math-pop they did fully convinced me that music can have a pop aesthetic but at the same time be very interesting - something I hadn't accepted completely before that - henceforth getting me into bands like This Town Needs Guns, Tubelord etc.
Secondly, I'm not THAT surprised. They've long maintained that Youthmovies has never been their main job, they were (unlike a lot of bands) increasingly scattered across the country and had been a little too quiet for comfort for at least a year (let's pray this doesn't happen to Circle Takes The Square). Therefore I can say that I'm not angry that they split. I'm just very sad that a band with such great potential didn't progress further.
Let's hope the other projects listed on the blog become as exciting and NECESSARY as they were.
2002-2010 RIP
