DiS' Song of the Day #1 - These New Puritans - We Want War
A new feature for a new year. The idea is simple: a song of the day, everyday, mostly picked by me and ready for you to discuss... I'm going to start doing this via Twitter and on our boards until we get a new frontpage/site designed (hopefully that'll be online by end of Feb) and can integrate it properly into the site. If tracks are available on Spotify they'll be available here on this playlist: http://open.spotify.com/user/seaninsound/playlist/2X2pqoL4G7glBX4js6MU8K
#1 - These New Puritans - We Want War
This is a 7minute twenny three second journey through a sewer of brass and into a rabbit warren of hip hop inspired beats. This is serious and interestingly the record has been mixed by Dave Cooley whose worked with MF Doom and J.Dilla!
There's a grace to this song that soars in a dark otherworldly place but there's also a filmic noir feel to it that's less Horrors and more like something for a Terry Gillian flick or a brooding slice of Wu Tang. And yeah, it does sound like a brave band building on the promise of their art-cool debut but it is possibly a knock'n'run clue to what forthcoming album 'Hidden' will be like.
