i've been listening to a few albums that really stand out as great, great sounding albums:

joanna newsom - ys. The swells of the backing orchestra is a thing of beauty

portishead - third. Tbh, I wouldn't have expected anything less, but it's gorgeous.

radiohead - in rainbows. Really quite lovely and pared down, but completely crystal clear.

fuck buttons - street horssing. I think this album actually sounds better than Tarot Sport.

battles - Any of the EPs. Have this really crazy spacey IDM thing going on, interspersed with the whole band playing. Awesome

obviously, these are great albums anyway, but the actual way the music's been mixed or produced or whatever, really really opens up the sound.

in fact, I listen to Ys as a special treat to myself cos it just sounds incredible.
