I'm pretty sure it does, when you really understand what is going on technically instead of just hearing nice noices you look at things differently, look out for certain techniques, are impressed by unique styles etc.

You get impressed far more by feats of technical wizardry or effects use, look into genres you never would have otherwise, and often end up exploring 'non-cool' music simply because often the 'in thing' doesnt offer
enough
