WiSH - 7th November - Fra Soler (Kompakt)
This month’s WiSH has a Spanish flavour. No, not orange. We have shared so much with Spain over the years. We take their best football players and give them our worst. We have had some great wars together (not The Great War though, that was ‘great’ as in ‘big’). We have admired their architecture, their artists and their women. They have admired nothing of ours. They leap into a ring with bulls we stumble across them when rambling. For this WiSH let us imagine that a great Spanish galleon and HMS WiSH have run aground on an island called Gramaphone. But, instead of looking for the Dharma Iniative we've got the decks out and turned the dancefloor into Picasso’s Guernica. Shipmates, Saturday 7th November will be the last WiSH in London. So, let’s go nuts and grow nuts.
Downstairs our special guest DJ is FRA SOLER from Kompakt. Fra is the resident at the Nitsa @ Apollo based in Barcelona and has been for over 10 years now. At Nitsa he has shared the DJ booth with some of the most important electronic artists of all time, such as Todd Terry, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Mr. Fingers, Carl Craig, Dave Clarke, Aphex Twins, Michael Mayer, David Holmes, Andrew Weatherall and hundreds more. Please note that these artists are not actually electronic, they are humans. Every year he is voted among the best Spanish DJs by Spanish magazines like Rockdelux and Go Mag. He has DJ'd at all the big Spanish festivals such as Primavera, Sonar etc and at all the biggest and best clubs worldwide. Many refer to him as a walking encyclopaedia as far as Techno and dance music is concerned and he proves this with his DJ sets. We at WiSH are big fans of books that can walk and so joining him will be our own walking encyclopaedia - Kath Harding. Whilst all that goes off like bad bananas, Spanish eyes will be smiling because our resident VJ Hobbyboy will be providing the visuals. Please be forewarned that Kath and Fra will also be playing at Jaded after WiSH so why not join them on the all-night Spain Train.
Upstairs the King of Spain, MARIONO ROBLES, will be joined by his daughter (Charlie Bird) and the nut tree (Sean Hewson). Mariano Robles started playing records in East Berlin in the early 90s and moved to Barcelona to promote successful nights at clubs such as La Paloma and Benidorm Bar. He is a regular DJ at the Cannes Film Festival playing at parties such as MTV at the Movies and Almodovar’s Volver premiere. In London he is a regular DJ at The George and Dragon, The Lock Tavern, Go!Zilla and at Shoreditch House Pool parties with the Horse Meat Disco boys. He is also one half of Toilet Disco whose first single is a cover of 'I Won’t Let You Down' by PhD, produced by Antipop from Telepopmusik. Together they will be playing every type of music that isn’t played downstairs in combinations that are both inspired and ridiculous.
This will be the last WiSH in London so we will not be stopping at 4am but continuing at Jaded where, as already mentioned, Kath and Fra will be DJing alongside WISH favourite Raymundo Rodriguez. Doors open at Gramaphone at 9pm so that is 9 hours of total insanity followed by a further 8 hours of insanity at Jaded. In the words of the prophet – hasta la vista, baby. We will see you next year when WiSH returns as something else.
