Whether you like your music thunderous and raining blood or sunny and aglow with melodic raptures, there is something for you in this week's celebration of mostly new Welsh music [iPlayer link above].

For example, we have [courtesy of the very fine people at Bethan Elfyn's BBC Radio 1 Introducing in Wales] two session tracks from the most talked about new band in the UK, Islet. After the programme I realised that talking about a band in terms of how much they're being talked about isn't all that constructive - might, indeed, be counter-productive. So let me tell that you that the best reason for getting excited about Islet is that they are dendritic, unpredictable and ace.

Parked across the last third of the show like a graffiti-resplendent subway carriage from The Wanderers is an exclusive mix from Chromekids [Kaptin]. Chromekids is a portal into a world of fascinating, frequently Welsh, urban music. If it's got a beat and a claim to being thoroughly 21st century, and it's bloody good, you'll be led to its door by Kaptin's passion and enthusiasm.

The mix coincides with a big night of Welsh beats at The Globe in Cardiff this coming Saturday night [17th October]. Here, in Kaptin's own words, is what will be going on: "it's a collaboration between the cities main Hip-hop activist groups (Associated Minds, Higher Learning and Mutty Wango) and we feel it's the best Hip-hop line up the city has seen for a while with a bunch of artists who are at the top of their game - Kyza, Dubbledge (Double Edge), Metabeats and Beatbox Fozzy plsu we shall be performing a set as Chrome Kids as well. Also there was some confusion as the Echo reported that The Globe had lost their license, this isn't true and the gig is definitely going ahead as planned... it is an early start however (doors are at 7.30pm)."
