MIE Music, Talons' new stuff, Trouble Books news.
Hi Guys
After the summer hiatus and the obligatory "3 weeks for virgin to fix up internet in your new flat" I'm up and running.
Two releases from talons' coming up. The first is the Songs For Babes LP, originally released on Bark and Hiss last year this great LP is getting a UK release on MIE. It's got a specially handmade cover for this release by Mike and Sommer and of course will come with the cdr of the LP AND the demo version of the forthcoming Songs For Boats LP, which is pretty enchanting. Well I'm waiting for it come over in the post from Ohio so I'll let you know when its available to order. Heres a nice review of it http://www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk/content/content_detail.php?id=3660&type=Albums (thats not the finished artwork)
Secondly, MIE shall be releasing The Rustic Bullshit CDR as well.I haven't done any press for this yet, please ask if you want anything, but the press release would go something like this:
"The quiet soundtrack to a relationship falling apart. Named from a friend’s description of talons’ music, Rustic Bullshit is fragile, personal, short and fluid. Instruments compete with background noise; breaking bottles and field recordings from a street in Akron compete with melody to form a weak and varied foundation for songs about fast food, alcohol and breaking up. The songs run together as Tolan sings about debt, sex, and the depressing state of American suburban life post-9/11. Lyrics are humorous, sad, or skeptical; building from a Beyonce reference to total giving-up but without slipping into brooding or self-absorption. Instead they hang-out somewhere between cynicism and sorrow, or between a joke and an unfunny joke. Not a happy place, but a lonely one, and maybe these sad sounds will bring some comfort. At its best, Rustic Bullshit is the album version of “All the Real Girls” (2003). At its worst, it is the album version of “The Break Up” (2006)."
This is possibly the saddest collection of songs i've ever heard. It'll be released as a cdr in a printed brown manila envelope.
Trouble Books, a new album is somewhere in the not too distant future and its sounding pretty amazing, maybe their most experimental sounding work but also their poppiest. More on that later. Also The United Colours of Trouble Books LP is nearly completely sold out and Endless Pool EP is chugging along well so if you want to pick one up head on over to www.miemusic.co.uk
well, yup, thats was long, tl;dr stuff, thanks for taking the time, means a lot.
