Grizzly Bear are my new musical crack.
I found myself jonesing for a fix of "Easier" on the bus today. It got me thinking about the UK vs US music rivalry. The US has produced so many awesome guitar-based bands in the last nine or so years (YYY's, Interpol, BRMC, The Strokes, The National, etc) that I really think they've just blown us away. We simply can't compete with them when it comes to the traditional two guitars, a bass and a drumkit set up.
Now, I think that we are still untouchable in terms of our output of electronic music, but give it another three or four years...
Sigh. It's a double edge sword, really. Like when those Yanky rascals started producing quality TV. You're pleased to be entertained, but at the same time you wish we could pull our socks up the same way.
Obviously, it's just my opinion. I'm sure many of you think the US still don't compare to us in terms of indie/rock music. Just thought I'd throw it out there anyway, though.
And I hope you'll be kind enough not to point out how far off my initial point I've gone...
