need help. Do I transition from CD's to digital...
I love CD's. I like the sound quality. I like having a physical copy I can hold in my hands. I'm on the road all day so I listen to a majority of my music in my car. I am addicted to remastered/reissued editions of my favorite albums with their compiling of awesome pictures, rare tracks, b-sides and band notes. I also like knowing that if my computer crashes I didn't just lose my record collection. Everyone keeps telling me CD's are dead. That I am a relic for continuing to buy everything on CD. To me there is very little exciting about a folder on my desktop having a new album by one of my favorite bands. I feel it devalues music and is a shoddy, uninspiring way to own and collect music.
What do I do? I feel like one day CD's will be obsolete and I will have a room full of 1000's of CD's from my favorite bands. I don't even know how to make the transition from CD to digital. I don't own an ipod. Can I play them in my car? Can I play them in my house in something other then my muffled computer speakers? Do I really just download 3000 cd's into my hard drive. I doubt I would even have the room. I have no idea what to do and though the internet has made music more widely available to me these are sad times. To think I may never walk into a record store again to find that out of print orange juice cd hidden in the back of the shop is devastating. I spent my youth in record stores. Anyone have any words of hope or advice for me?
