do we need music critics anymore? are they on their way out?
Before we could get all our music off the internet, it was really handy to have someone from a credible magazine we trusted point us in the direction of good music and make sure that we knew a lot about a band before we parted with our hard earned cash.
now though, we can listen to every band on the internet almost instantly - thus being able to make our own minds up without having to read what someone else thinks of it. I used to read so many reviews, but now I read hardly any, as I don't really feel the need when I can go on spotify/myspace and decide if I like it myself.
For me personally, I'd find it a lot better if reviews were about 200-300 words long and just pointed us in the right direction of something good. I like reading articles discussing music, but when it comes to reviews - I'll always skim them quickly and then listen to the band on myspace and decide for myself.
What does everyone else think?
