Anyone here like Bloc party but feel obliged to admit that Kele Okereke is not a strong live vocalist at all?
The last time I went to see them live, it sort of marred the whole thing for me if I'm honest and left me feeling cold.
I do like the band - I don't even hate 'Intimacy' (which in hindsight, is the best compliment anyone can pay to that album). But I can't ignore Kele's weakness as a live vocalist nor refuse to accept that this does impinge on my enjoyment of the band at gigs.
Kele's alright but he strains his bollocks off to reach certain notes and that may be part of the charm in their performances for some, but I like solid powerful and confident vocals and I have never exp[experienced that from Kele. The will is always there but that's not enough frankly.
I turned down the offer to go and see them again later this year - I have the recorded material and that's always strong so I'll stick with that.
