I really, really like this song.

Up until 2004/5 the US was churning out some amazing commercial hip-hop/r'n'b. I could rattle off dozens of artists who had at least one, if not a handful, of awesome chart hits; they include, but are not limited to: Kelis, Outkast, Jay-Z, Wyclef, Ludacris, The Game, Missy Elliot, Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg, Mos Def, DMX, Kanye, N*E*R*D, R.Kelly and J-Kwon. Some of them were a bit daft, or novelty, but it's hard to deny that from a very commercial perspective, there were some excellent singles produced in the first half of the decade.

Since then, I'm not so sure. Rihanna and Beyonce have both struck gold, but as far as I'm aware - or at least to my mind and tastes - the stream of urban pop genius dried up considerably, replaced by a lot of mediocrity, auto-tune and basically far less of the accessible, fun hip-hop that sound awesome dancing drunk to in clubs.

That's why I guess Kiss Me Through The Phone has struck a positive chord with me, because it seems to be a welcome return to a lighter, more appealing sound that I really enjoy. I haven't enjoyed a blatantly made-for-charts hip-hop song this much in absolutely ages.

I'll probably get shot down for it though.
