I know it's not a very fashionable statement, and I'm not trying to be controversial or anything like that, but thinking about it, punk really did fuck guitar-based music up. It gave every chancer with only two chords and a misanthropic outlook on life the excuse to say: "Yeah, my band's shit, but I have passion, so that, ironically, makes my band good."

I know it's an old argument (Talent vs Enthusiasm), but I think I'm going to go with talent/technical ability over enthusiasm. Even the Sex Pistols had technically great songs. Most of their imitators didn't. I'd rather listen to a great, well-played riff over a sloppy one played with 'heart' any day.
