I'm a little confused. There are a lot of threads dedicated to this band that have popped up here recently and I am not sure whether it is due to a wide scale appreciation of this band or a smaller but nevetheless rather excited bunch of fans on this forum?

I look at the bands/ albums which are getting a lot of attention on sites like this and for the most part it's invaluable to me. But I can't see what all the fuss is about. Now of course not everything is to everyone's taste but I usually work with the inference that if a large number of people see something special in a given band/ album, then it's more likely they're right and I'm wrong than visa versa.

The trouble is I've been giving this band some attention recently due to what I've seen on here and they sound really unexciting to me - or perhaps only excitable in a very 'juvenile way'? I don't mean that in a sort of, "you listen to shit", sneer, but an honest to God confusion as to how a large number of people can find this stuff so sensational.

It's not bad, but it's a bit facile and uninteresting isn't it? It surely can't appeal to many people over the age of twenty. No, to be fair, I've given some of their songs a listen and they get really annoying almost straight away - lots of other bands do too of course, but they don't have about ten threads devoted to them on a decent music forum.

So what is it? Is all this a lot of excitement generated by a small bunch of fans or is the appreciation much broader than that? I'd like to think it was the latter, but I've seen little evidence of the same sort of reaction I'm having to confirm that.

Can anyone help me? It's not an attack, as I say. What you like is what you like, but where is this 'hype' coming from?
