Kerrang!
Haven't bought one for years but was reading a couple of old ones and they were sort of terrible. But had good features. In ne alone it had the history of FNM and an interview with Steve Albini.
however it also says "that those who claim to be Merzbow fans do so simply to appear harder than Slayer fans. After all, there's little that is more relentless and utterly painful than Masami Akita's forays into the realm of audio cyanide, and he's surely more name-dropped than listened to." I know a woman said this (:P) but it's just fucking wrong.
On Xiu Xiu - Knife Party. SF's Xiu Xiu have inadvertedly delivered one of the most hilarious albums ever. As pretentious and portentous as only a band named after a cult chinese movie could be, Xiu Xiu mix resolutely downbeat bedsit oetry with dissonant sound collages , straddling the fine line between 'art' and 'arse'. Imagine the doom obsessed artist from 'The Fast Show' ('Black! Black! Black') in a broken lift shaft having cutlery, crockery and synthesizers hurled upon and you'll have an idea of the random, chaotic and tuneless nature of Xiu Xiu."
I can't believe i used to read this.
So dig 'em up chaps.
