Hank Williams Snr
I have an extremely varied & diverse musical taste. Amongst my collection are 9 Hank Williams Snr albums. He happens to be one of my favorite artists of all time with his heart-rending laments and gut wrenching voice. I don’t see HW mentioned much on this forum so I thought I’d see if we have many other fans in our ranks.
For those that don’t know, HW died on New Years Day in 1953 aged 29 of a combination of Drink & Drugs. He had a recording/performing career that spanned 1946-52. He virtually single-handedly wrote the rules of engagement for modern day country music. He was the first country singer whose songs consistently made the leap to pop music audiences.
Classic songs such as "Your Cheatin' Heart", "Cold, Cold Heart" and “Long Gone Lonesome Blues” made him a household name. Anyone can identify with the pain & suffering HW packed into a two-and-a-half-minute blues song.
A jug of wine to numb my mind
But what good does it do
The jug runs dry and still I cry
I can't escape from you.
Anyone else heard/like HW?
