New Albums
Just heard a couple of new albums, heres my thoughts:
FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND - HOURS
Right i may face a slaughtering for this, but i quite liked the first album "Casually Dressed and Deep In Conversation", there was something there which just seemed to click with me.
When i heard the first single from this album, "Street Car", I was immensely disappointed, there was just nothing there to hold my interest for more than a minute. Maybe its just a bad song i thought. No. It isn't. They decided to get rid of the screaming, and fair play to them, but, if they have to do this they gotta make sure that they manage to maintain the huge singalong melodies that the first album offered. But they arent there. Matt Davies vocals just arent up to the a job. The whole album sounds too familiar, too generic, like something Thursday could do in their sleep. Weve been there and heard that and heck, we've even bought the t-shirt, but this album offers little to the already stale scene. It failed to hold my interest and i probably wont listen to it again for a while.
Finch - Say Hello To Sunshine
A somewhat optimistic title, from a previously depressive sound. Back in the day when i was still at school, i liked Finch. That is, until they released an album. Damn how poor was that first album? This album though offers something more than the first album, actual song-writing capabilities. They seem to have stepped out of the shadows of GlassJaw and developed their own sound. Its not as generic as much of the shit thats still around now, at times it sounds like Deftones, Biffy Clyro and even System of a Down. While there is still the odd wank song, it is much fucking better than the first album. Standout track for me is "Ink" offersan edgier sound.
check it out you may be surprised like me.
