Bands making music for themselves to listen to and no one else to hear

normalgrl [Edit] [Delete] 01:32, 26 February '08

today adam gnade posted on his myspace that he was getting set to record an album--as soon as he posted the post--and that he wasn't going to release it, just keep one tape copy that he'd listen to whenever we wanted. (IT's going to be an "instrumental noise drone" record with like 595959 instruments on it and it's under the name "Ruby KIngs," the title of which is "Palaces II" since it's the sequel to his Palaces cd.

I like this idea because it kind of shits on the idea that all the art people make is important and that it must be heard and marketed and "adored" for it to have any value.

I'm sick of bands shouting out their myspace url on stage and bands that have 43 different stickers and only one record and bands that are so passionate towards becoming "famous."

It's nice to see someone make music--someone, it should be said, who generally gets his music out to the public, tours extensively, and "plays the game" do something just to do it and to enjoy the process.

If YOU were in a band would you ever do the same or would you rather pimp yourself out all over the internet and shout your myspace url from the stage?

I ask this honestly because I, sadly, think I'd be a part of the latter.
