Music Social More…

Clever, clever, indie.

OK, I've never really felt any connection to the type of indie bands who place their arch intelligence at the forefront of their music.

For example, I enjoy listening to, say Xasthur for the sheer black misery of it, a band like Converge for the visceral aggressions and say Kanye West at the other end of the spectrum for his unabashedly populist songwriting, but I just don't get bands like Belle & Sebastian or British Sea Power who seem more concerned with being bookish than anything else.

What do people get out of it? I'm not saying that music needs to have dumb lyrics for me to enjoy it (although I do really love music with dumb lyrics).

(That's not a criticism for those of you who enjoy that type of music btw I'm just interested).
