built to last ..
none of the current crop of popular rock bands are built to last ... none of them.
seriously .. can you imagine people going to see any of todays current acts in 20+ years time the way people still flock to arenas and stadia to bands like U2, metallica and REM who were popular back in the day ?
its like they all want the quick shot to fame rather than a lasting career.
i reckon this is partly the fault of mtv2/nme/record labels too for only promoting and signing the trendiest bands...they've always done this, its their business to...but now i think theyve painted themselves into a corner.
look at the grunge days, sure they signed "quicksuccessmoneynow" bands..but then theres bands like pearl jam that have weathered the storm and are still massive......where are the bands that will have long, successful and inspirational careers gonna come from today ? the bands that can be popular, long standing and good at the same time.
