Why should a band progress? I'm interested because the insults thrown at Oasis are often explained by saying they "do the same old thing" or something to that effect. I always thought that playing music is a timeless activity. Is there a need to introduce timing and progression into music so the listener can put it in context more easily? If so, why slate the band for it?
